Pg. 108 (new SU Catalog)

Who doesn't love real flowers, I've been piddlin in my garden flowers and vegetables, it's very refreshing!  My take on this picture is colorful flowers and so that's just what I did--make a colorful flower card.

(layers)

I bought the entire suite "Hues of Happiness,"  it's more colorful and busy than I am use to--but hey I have purposed to be "more adventurous" this year...It's pretty straight forward ...it's a fussy floral card.   I fussy cut even though I have the dies.   I used my xyron to back the flowers with cs before cutting around them and I popped the rose on the card to add some dimension.   I'm linking to the above challenges and you just click on the pictures to go the websites.   The mini rhinestones are CTMH (not sure if they are current) and the vertical Happy Birthday is from SU (retired) Celebrate with Flowers.       Thanks for looking and let me know what you honestly think!     Smiles,   Kathy

Mid Century Modern Singer...

My mom was a fantastic seamstress.   She had very little to work with, but the things she made were always so amazing!   I love making cards that are a nod to her crafting abilities.   With the photo of green clover in mind  I decided to make my sewing machine "green."   Although I no longer have her machine I'm fairly certain it was green.   I went online and found a green singer machine from that time period. so most likely it was green!  The first machine I remember her sewing on was a treadle machine, which did not require electricity, you just rocked the treadle back and forth with your feet.  I (a mid century baby) was about 7 or 8 when the electric machine came along in approximately 1960.   She was so happy and made us girls such pretty clothes, often out of of flour or feed sacks. Last night, I participated in a swap with 5 other card makers. such a fun evening.  We made a card from an SU collection "The Waves of Inspiration"  that is available now.   My card is very simple but reflects the plainness of what my mother would have worked with.  My oldest sister has a picture of herself in a dress that my mom altered from a cousin's dress that my aunt gave her.  I'm fairly certain that it had sequins on it and it was a deep green color (formal dress).  Below are the challenges that I'm linking this card to...Thanks for stopping in and comments are welcomed.    Smiles,  Kathy

Can You Handle the Pressure

"Use an Embossing Folder with a twist--use plaid"

This is my first time participating at this blog.   The EB folder is an SU folder for texturizing, reminds me of white "wedding gown" fabric--it gives the cs a slight sheen and you can stamp your sentiment on it!

In case you want to see a Treadle Machine in action

Cut Out To Be Friends...

The challlenges that led to my card are below and you click on the picture to go the website.  I did not find a sketch that worked for me this time out...so I did as I pleased!  It's not original I'm sure!    A supply list will also be listed below.    The inspiration photo is quite colorful, so this is probably one of the most colorful cards I have ever made.   It looks better in person, but my watercoloring leaves much to be desired.  I think I waited too late to learn this technique.   My hand tremors a good bit, partly because of all the medicines I take for Mulltiple Myeloma and partly because of old age.   I researched the harlequin jester and it is a tradition at Mardi Gras, which starts Mar. 1, this year.   I just picked out some colorful paper and used a somewhat harlequin  styled 3 D embossing folder.  The composition of the jesters clothing contributed to my choosing the striped paper and adding texture with the embossing folder.   I actually do like how colorful it is and I welcome your input.   Thanks for stopping by!         Smiles   Kathy

A cat and her Mini Farthing...

I am far from a genuis, but somehow a few days ago, I stumbled onto the Einstein Inspiration Challenge Blog.
where the inspiration #14 photo shows  a cat circling a bike.    The focal points are the bike and the cat, now what you do with that, oh well, let's see..   I ran across a set of acrylic bike stamps and sentiment at Hobby Lobby by Bo Bunny (on sale) and I borrowed an SU Cat stamp set complete with punch from my SU Demonstrator/Friend.   I chose a bicycle with a super huge wheel and a tiny wheel and proceeded to do research finding some interesting facts.  Also known as a high wheeler, the penny-farthing was the first machine to be called a "bicycle." Popular in the 1870s and 1880s, it had a large front wheel, where the rider sat, and a much smaller back wheel. It got its name from the British penny and farthing coins, with the former being much larger than the latter.   I needed to come up with a cover story for why the cat I'm using is only slightly smaller than the Bicycle,  So I put the card together using some fall colors, because my niece April was our family's sweet sweet  September baby.  OOPs I will need to use a belated birthday wish in the inside of the card.   But now the back story....A reliable British source states that there is cat Phoebe living in London with an interesting lineage.   It seems that about 25-50 greats back (even though they have 9 lives - their mostly short ones and there are other circumstances of demise) back to the story,  she had a grandmother who's owner made her a mini penny farthing bicycle and she performed in circuses all over Europe, becoming quite famous and the bike was handed down from mother to daughter until becoming Phoebe's prized possession.   Sadly dear Phoebe's Circus Riding was short lived after she tore her ACL attempting a death defying jump over the clown car  After surgery and weeks of therapy she only rides for pleasure and  will never see the bright lights of the big show again. I think my niece who not only enjoys biking but also loves cats, will find her card amusing and fun.. Her  card is going in the mail today!   One more point of interest.   It was AFTER I had the card completely made that I decided to a search on cats riding a Penny Farthing and that's when I discovered the bottom Photo....so just maybe,  Phoebe's story is not so far fetched after all!
