52 Christmas Card Throwdown

 

Back over at Tuesday Morning Sketches and 52 CCTD.    Such a surprise to win honorable mention for this card for October theme!  A couple of weeks ago I die cut an oval and stamped Season's Greetings, planning to use the bird and pine on it...bought this set from CTMH a few years ago and still love it!   The sketch at TMS works perfectly and I was able to use the rt to left diagnol tic tac toe at 52CCTD ford the October Stash Challenge.   For Christmas I love the color green,so for the pine needles I used SU Mossy Meadow.  The green rhinestones I think are Honey Bee (not sure).   The Patterned paper is digital from Etsy.

Sunflower Birthday...

Hi friends,  thanks for stopping in!    Today's card is made with two challenges in mind,  the sketch is from Tuesday Morning Sketches and I chose the rt vertical column of the current Tic Tac Toe challenge.

I haven't played at either of these for awhile now.   The card base and panel is from this Birch Bark collection at Etsy.   The sunflower and sentiment is from Connie Fong.    I colored the image with colored pencils!  Comments are always welcome and have a safe and creative week!        Smiles,   Kathy

 

Psalm 34.18 Sympathy Card....

Probably like me you don't particularly like to make Sympathy cards, but sadly, from time to time we need a card to send a friend or acquaintance.   I just seem to gravitate that direction with this card made using this week's sketch at Tuesday Morning Sketches.   One of the tasks I completed this week was organizing the cards I had gotten a recognition badge to display on my blog.   I ended up doing a post which I was able to link to a gadget on the left side of the blog, that can be clicked on to go to that post, which I can update if I ever need to.   I discovered that I had participated about 47 times over at TMS and several of my cards had been picked.   But what meant the most to me was as I was rereading the post where my sister had passed away that week and I had just found out that my myeloma had "relapsed."    The design team, were so "kind" with their comments and I felt surrounded by ladies who cared about me as someone who was struggling...As I read it all, my heart was lifted, my sister loved Jesus and I am confident we will one day be together again.   And for over a year now,   My myeloma has been in remission.   So thank you TMS design team for being there for me 2 years ago.   Cardmaking,  blogging and entering challenges has put me on a path of making friends with some wonderful caring folks!      Thanks for stopping in.    Smiles,    Kathy

The sketch for this week at TMS was a little daunting at first, but inspired by Patti's card and story, these papers came to mind and this is what I made...The paper pad came in a nice package deal at Scrapbook.com.  I typed the verse in WORD using the font TWSkinnyPenny from Etsy.    It is the artist's handwriting so I can only use it for sentiments or my own journaling in WORD.   I can't download it to use in my blog,   but I think it is a very versatile font for Bible verses and sentiments like "Happy Birthday" (public domain stuff).   Thanks for looking and have a pleasant holiday tomorrow!           Smiles   Kathy

The sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketch was the first challenge I chose for this card.  My first love in challenges will always be for a "sketch."   That probably comes from doing Radiology for forty years.   The anatomy of the part to be x-rayed  had to appear a certain consistent way on all x-rays for them to be diagnostic.   While I try to be creative no,  in my job as a Radiologic Technologist that would not have been encouraged or appreciated by the Radiologist for whom I worked.

Be Still and Know that I am God...

The Hues of Happiness DSP from SU is so pretty, so I fussy cut a few of the highland heather/purple flowers and made a couple of bees from the Garden Wishes Stamp set, the ribbon is bumblebee plaid, I used Black SU and the Grape Marbleous DSP to showcase Psalm 46.10  "Be Still and Know that I am God."   Thanks for looking.   Smiles,   kathy

I thought on this Tuesday Morning sketch all week and here is what I came up with..  I am also linking to the new to me--- Sparkles Monthly Challenge  (challenge is floral frenzy) and Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge.   I"ve linked to Pammie's Inky Pinkies once before and so I am participating in their Anything Goes challenge 2223..   The lace paper is an Etsy download and the floral is SU retired DSP (compliments of my SU demonstrator).   A group of us met this past Friday at her home and she had a mountain of retired DSP that we could pick from for free!  She is so  good to us!  I used Vellum to ground it all and fussy cut the flowers.   This is the first time I have used Merlot (SU) and I really think it matched and turned out very pretty.    Thanks so much for stopping in!     Smiles,   kathy

dog therapy card....

A week ago this past Friday, our (almost 14 year old Carin Terrier) had a fatty tumor and 2 cancerous (non spreading) tumors removed...she looked like the dog of "Frankinstein"  with all her staples (if he owned a dog).  It was rough for the few days, she cried and I was up with her all night the first night.  The Vet game us his cell number and told us to call if we needed to know what to do.  She is much better now and we are so thankful.  At first I was planning on making a dog get well card. I bought a bandage collection from Etsy and printed on the white side of some gold to make myself a metal bandage clip to use (show in picture above with real bandage clips.)   But then I remembered this dog from a free download collection 2018 Making Cards Magazine UK.  I have used him and others several times on cards, they are such cute guys!.    So my thought processes for this card was to start with the anything goes over at Critter Crazy Challenges using this weeks Tuesday Morning Sketch.   I added in Tic Tac Toe Challenge using the 3rd vertical line:  embellishment, animal and free, and then decided that was enough...I wanted to keep the card clean and simple.  I remembered the dog bone clips and used them instead of the bandage clip ( I may need this idea in the future for sure)

I have grouped card challenge blogs on pinterest and that makes it easy to clip and see which ones might work together.

It's going to take longer buy I am carding my ribbons on card spools using card clips and hanging them on a hanger in my craft closet (RoyGBIV)   I will post a picture when that is finished.

I made this card using a sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches, for swap with my stamping friends.    I liked this sketch so much I have used it a few times. Some of you may have noticed that I have not been creating lately.    Long story short, Mid Febrary I was put on a new medicine and a week or so later, we noticed I was very fatigued and sleeping alot more.   Finally after testing for other things, we weaned me off and I am doing so much better.   The other thing is my Su dealer-friend and I have been making thank you cards for my daughter who will be (along with women from all over the world) in a country with diverse cultures and conflict.   They will be eating in the homes of women from several cultures and my daughter wanted special cards to thank them.   We also made little clear boxes of 3x3 cards for her to give them out as gifts...I will post all of that in a separate post.     The sketch for my above card is Tuesday Morning Sketches.  I started trying to get this ready and somehow just kept missing out!   I used one of my favorite embossing folders from SU, it's ocean waves I think, but it reminds me of folds of fabric for "Can you Handle the Pressure." The color scheme is from Paper Players and I created 2 cards and really like them both.  This sentiment kept bringing a song to mind,  "Hope has a name, His name is Jesus."  I hope it will bless you as it does me!    Thanks for stopping by.   I appreciate all of you!       Kathy

 

Apples in Season Card...

My card today uses a digital stamp set "Apples in Season" from Power Poppy...she is giving away free Sunflower sets  for Ukraine and also selling 2 sets as a fundraiser for Ukraine.   In addition to the free sets I bought this set and The Lavendar sprigs stamp set, which will work nicely with this challenge from Tuesday Morning Sketches.  I'm planning on making 6 more of the apple cards for a swap with friends changing a couple of things but it's a nice sketch.  . I used colored pencils and fussy cut the two apples with a few leavees to put across so the twine is underneath.  As best I remember the apple tree in our yard when I was a kid had white blooms with pinky centers....I'm sure there are all kinds of different blooms depending on the type of apple!   I am also linking this to Can You Handle The Pressure,. Mid Century Modern Singer...

 

 

My mom was a fantastic seamstress.   She had very little to work with, but the things she made were always so amazing!   I love making cards that are a nod to her crafting abilities.   With the photo of green clover in mind  I decided to make my sewing machine "green."   Although I no longer have her machine I'm fairly certain it was green.   I went online and found a green singer machine from that time period. so most likely it was green!  The first machine I remember her sewing on was a treadle machine, which did not require electricity, you just rocked the treadle back and forth with your feet.  I (a mid century baby) was about 7 or 8 when the electric machine came along in approximately 1960.   She was so happy and made us girls such pretty clothes, often out of of flour or feed sacks. Last night, I participated in a swap with 5 other card makers. such a fun evening.  We made a card from an SU collection "The Waves of Inspiration"  that is available now.   My card is very simple but reflects the plainness of what my mother would have worked with.  My oldest sister has a picture of herself in a dress that my mom altered from a cousin's dress that my aunt gave her.  I'm fairly certain that it had sequins on it and it was a deep green color (formal dress).  Below are the challenges that I'm linking this card to...Thanks for stopping in and comments are welcomed.    Smiles,  Kathy

This is my first time participating at this blog.   The EB folder is an SU folder for texturizing, reminds me of white "wedding gown" fabric--it gives the cs a slight sheen and you can stamp your sentiment on it!
