Little Donkey in the pasture...

Last week I had decided to make "manly" cards on Monday...I picked this little donkey out yesterday  but didn't get it done until today.   I give cards to my sister since she and her husband send out so many birthday, graduation, you name the occasion and she is always needing more masculine cards.   They aren't as much  fun to make.   But this little guy captured my heart. The sketch challenge is 573 over at Just Add Ink and it worked to well for adding color and texture to my card.     I wanted to emboss the base and I was flipping through my folders and found this one,  I think it works well, since I'm sure when donkey gets his run on he can kick up some dirt!  I used "plaid tiding" SU and the base is ctmh (I love how embossing it gives a sanded appearance.  I used markers for coloring, but I have ordered SU water color pencils and I think that will be easier and look much nicer.  I always use Intense Black from CTMH to stamp my images with, it just works so well for me!  It really is quite simple, but I think it's fun!

Masculine Birthday....

Seldom ever can I say I just love a card for a guy...I'm of the opinion that because they don't just ooh and ahh over cards (or at least the guys in my life don't) that plain and simple is best for sure.   I ordered this SU set quite awhile back and recently have been using it some.   The colors are pear pizzazz and gray granite.  I used the little tool in the picture to break the stark contrast between the pens and the watercolor paper (a recent acquisition) so nice individual 8 1/2 by 11 inches.   I enjoy downloading lovely floral images from Power Poppy Designs.  I read that this paper would work well with my jet printer as long as I let it dry with markers etc.   The sketch is from Tuesday Morning Sketches...maybe this will give you ideas! dapper owl...

I really don't have any large sentiment stamps, but I am working to change that.   I wanted to do this sketch #260 at CAS(E) This Sketch.  Somehow I kept thinking about this"owl" stamp that I've had for years.   So I decided to computer generate an appropriate sentiment to use with an "owl".   I used Sahara Sand for the panel and Dapper Denim for my base.  I speckled the background with  light lime green and made die cut leaves with pistachio pudding. I left the owl uncolored because I like it better than coloring it.   I tied a mini bow with some dapper denim twine I had left from the card kit "Perennial Birthday". I finished it off with a light old olive enamel (SU).  I think it works well for a man card and they are always usually much plainer than for us gals. Thanks for stopping by,  kathy

Teal Birthday...

Today, I'm playing along over at Addicted to CAS #129 "Teal."    Last month I helped host a Bridal shower for a family friend.   Since she is getting married at an "upcycled barn" venue and is using teal, I bought a distressed wood plank paper to make her invitations.  I printed the invite on vellum and attached with ribbon to panels I cut from the teal paper.  The picture of today's card shows that paper.   From some of the left overs  I die cut Happy Birthday (not a fru-fru die cut). .  I cut the sentiment again in Lagoon (CTMH) and layered this on the card base and then topped with the Happy Birthday from the worn-wood paper.  It was "very forgiving" to work with.  For the card base I used Sahara Sand (SU)  and stamped some "tools" on it with taffy ink which matched the worn distressed look in the paper. The tool stamp set and taffy ink are from CTMH (retired).   It was very simple..which is what I like when I am making more than one card. In all I made 10, since I wanted to share with the girls that I stamp and swap with and also my sister!   She is always wanting cards for the males in her family!     Thanks for looking, I enjoyed participating at CAS..     Kathy
