Driving By...

My older sister actually owned a blue VW bus when I was a junior in high school.   The memories of it, are mostly good.   So when I saw this stamp set in Sale a Bration I knew I had to have it.   I've been waiting until the right time to use it and the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and color scheme at Sunday Stamps seem to pair up for a fun card!   I ended up paper piecing for the VW bus image which I don't recall ever doing.  But what to put behind it for the sketch was somewhat of a challenge.   I have a tire track image from a CTMH stamp set that I have probably owned for over 10 years, but when I tried that it just didn't work out.  So,  I ended up printing an outline of my state to use as a background image.  It is the same state my sister and I lived in during the "VW bus era."    For the color scheme at  Sunday Stamps I used two browns and two blues.   For the embossed panel I turned it upside down, as a nod to wheelies in the sand, not that my sister would ever have done that !  I could send this to my sister as a birthday card or I could send itto a guy---who lives in SC.  It works for either.  Anyway thanks for dropping by today,  now I'm off to vacuum and mop the kitchen/dining area and living room/entry while Hubby and dog Sydney are at the park, so much easier when they aren't here! .   Smiles,   Kathy

 

Stencil from die cut card...

This was difficult for me.   The cutting it out wasn't hard, but I just don't stencil very well,...but using a leaf branch die, I made a stencil, laid it over the panel and sponge as carefully as I could..  I goofed up and had to mirror the sketch.   I used the flower punch and made a stencil as well.   I pressed on and got it done, in the spirit of adventure.   Thanks for stopping by,   Smiles, Kathy

Happy to my day...

One of the most challenging sketches for me is a color challenge.   But Sunday Stamps challenge for this week caught my attention and I decided to give it a go.   I had already decided to make the FMS challenge because making the occasional square card is fun!    When I woke up this morning I thought of my cone flower set and how user friendly it is and came up with this card.       Hope you like it! Calm and Bright...

The bunny and the brich background is the calm, so I decided to add some blue metallic thread and sequins for the bright.   I just love the Nature's Beauty in the current SU book.   I used a digital back ground for the panel and computer generated the sentiment.  It's just a fun and simple card!   Thanks for stopping by,  Kathy    PS comments are so appreciated!

SSS May 2018 Kit #4 card

This is the 4th card that I have made using the items in my SSS May kit.  I thought of this green paper that is the base would be perfect for the SundayStamps sketch.  The card is up against an unused orange piece that is just like the green piece before I embossed it with the 3D Tim Holz embossing folder.  In additions to items from the kit I used SU tranquil Tide Ink...retired CTMH aqua enamels and Versa Fine Black Pigment Ink.

It came together fairly quickly and I am always tickled when I use retired items!

Combining two challenges I made my card, using Melon Mambo, Lemon Lime Twist and Mint Macaroon.  Both Challenges were tough for me, but definitely taught me much...like "what not to do."   I used my stamparatus to get crisp images and a crisp sentiment.   I am loving this new toy.  But I stamped the dots using a block for the most part.  The stamp sets were Color Me Happy (Su last year when blender pens came out) and Dragon Fly Dreams (SU current) Thanks for  topping by.    Kathy

With Love...

Blog chit-chat is interesting, while I love reading all the things many of you put...I'm stymied with what I might share that you would  find interesting.  Here is my attempt...I was once asked what flower do I think I am most like.  Hmm..well I'm not a gardener but my mom use to have a garden where she grew green beans and when I was young she encouraged "made me" pull weeds...I'm not sure whether I honestly couldn't tell the difference or I just wanted to bug her, but I was constantly asking is this a bean or a morning glory.  The very young plants looked so much alike.  Because we wanted the beans "to produce" food, we needed to pull the morning glories out.  A few years ago, before stamping, I took a flower arranging class at a local tech school. I became somewhat fascinated with morning glories and have read in some articles that they bloom in the morning and fade in the afternoon...hence the name morning glory.  I have made a couple of floral arrangements using silk morning glories, once of which was a bridal bouquet.  They are gorgeous and while I've seen them in mostly lavender and blue--I'm going out on a limb and coloring this one Calypso Coral! What flower am I?   I am a "morning glory",  I have a history of starting a project and then fading before it's finished.  My yard sales were always so popular.  I am happy to report that my card making hobby has been perking along for over 15 years and I still love playing with all the trappings and learning new techniques.  It is so much fun and therapeutic.   Thanks for stopping by and comments are so welcome!   Kathy

Techniques:  Using Daubers applied ink to image, followed that with colored pencils to deepen the textue of                      the image, then fussy cut.   Both sentiment and morning glory popped on banner.
