Pg. 108 (new SU Catalog)

Who doesn't love real flowers, I've been piddlin in my garden flowers and vegetables, it's very refreshing!  My take on this picture is colorful flowers and so that's just what I did--make a colorful flower card.

I bought the entire suite "Hues of Happiness,"  it's more colorful and busy than I am use to--but hey I have purposed to be "more adventurous" this year...It's pretty straight forward ...it's a fussy floral card.   I fussy cut even though I have the dies.   I used my xyron to back the flowers with cs before cutting around them and I popped the rose on the card to add some dimension.   I'm linking to the above challenges and you just click on the pictures to go the websites.   The mini rhinestones are CTMH (not sure if they are current) and the vertical Happy Birthday is from SU (retired) Celebrate with Flowers.       Thanks for looking and let me know what you honestly think!     Smiles,   Kathy

 

Husband's Valentine...

As I started putting together the "ingredients" for this card, I decided that the color scheme and sentiment would be work perfect on a Valentine for my husband.   That's when it's ok to give a man a somewhat frou frou card, or at least I think so!     It will have a gift card inside for his hobby.   I probably won't get a card, but he will tell me to order myself some card making goodies which works for me!   He would take me somewhere nice to eat, but since I am immunocompromised and  Covid continues to rage we will order food from a nice restaurant and pick it up at the curb.    The photo at The Card Concept speaks formal to me, but I think I used the colors a little less so and using gray as a neutral I pretty much stuck to the  color scheme as it appears.  The 2nd card with the black base is actually the first card I made, Clean and layered is the look I was going for!  But the camera shows everything and the Just a note didn't imprint good and I filled in with a black marker, and in the photo it looked horrible.   I didn't have any more black so I used gray on the top card.  But the more I looked at the first card, I kept thinking I could fix...and that is what I did I untied the ribbon and attached a new panel and then reattached a heart and the flowers.  It was a lot of work, but I think it was worth it, I now have 2 lovely cards of this design!  The watercolor dots and stripes are from Digital BJOETEE on ETSY.  They printed so beautifully on watercolor paper.  I print on watercolor paper all of my digital files for the most part, it makes such a difference when it's an image I want to color.   I can print from the photo tray so I don't waste paper when I print an image.   I store all my digital files on a separate hard drive so I don't tax my computer hard drive.   White looking for a sketch for the card on Pinterest I came across the Paper Craft Crew sketch # 158 and when I visited their blog and found that their current challenge is "Anything Goes" I decided this sketch would be perfect.   The heart die is from Hobby Lobby (can't remember who).  The pretty little flowers are SU stamped on some of the big circle paper that I printed.   I only print what I want for the project I'm doing...but I have a notebook that I save the leftover papers in a protector with the photo on Etsy of the download package, with each paper choice numbered to match each jpg or png in the file.  That way it doesn't take long to find what I want!   I still buy pretty papers but my work space is in the guest bedroom, so I have to purge regularly and make sure what I buy can be used over and over (stamps and dies at least).  Soon I plan to take pictures of my workspace and share how I manage limited space!      Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!     Kathy

 

Christmas Star...

The Card Concept challenge was to upload a picture of a Christmas decoration or tree or favorite card.   A few years ago I purchased this metal star at the local Tractor supply on clearance after Christmas.   I added some Hobby Lobby pics and a "clearance" ribbon bow that matches the ribbons on the sconces beside my front door.  Simply and frugal (works for me). You can't tell but the door is a pale green!     Merry Christmas everybody!         Kathy

 

Thanksgiving Leaves Card...

Here is my second card for Inspired by... "Hello Friend,  fall look and colors.    I used the Card Concept colors, it looked like Navy in the picture to me,  I even put in a brand  new color cartridge and printed it out.    The Playful Pnguin blue stripe worked and I tied  it with a mint maccaron cord and used the  colors the cagun and yellow - pumpkin pie to give my leaves a burnished look.   The image and Sentiment are from Graciellie Designs.   I used colored pencils, for this small an image it just works better than water color pencils.   I really liked the challenges and I think this is a very nice card.   Simple and clean!       Thanks for stopping in,   Kathy

 

Black and White Polka Dot Pumpkin?

Behind every card is a story...the photo at Inspiration Station Blog was the beginning of my creative quest to make this card.   The lady in the photo looks perplexed (perhaps I was projecting my perplexity onto her.)  I had made a card with pumpkins for the last challenge, so what to do...while browsing through Etsy's downloadable paper packs for fall paper, I came upon some "interesting and different" paper.  It had polka dot pumpkins fall chrysanthemums in fall colors, but I liked the look of the black and white one.  It was my "great pumpkin."   I was inspired by the Inspiration photo to do a pumpkin again, but the color scheme was inspired by Card Concept challenge and I used a Try Stampin on Tuesday sketch.   I downloaded the paper and in basic Paint cut out the Panel and copied it in a Word program and printed.   Die cuts and Embossing folders added visual interest.   Thanks for looking,   Kathy

Dahlia Sympathy...

I was inspired by Card Concept Challenge #89 going for a layered clean look using "yellow" as my focal point.   Sketch #330 at  Freshly Made Sketches worked so well for me to use a new stamp set to make a sympathy card.   It's pretty straight forward.   I stamped the dahlia on water color paper with staz on and used SU retired water color crayons (Yo Yo Yellow and Barely Banana) with an aqua brush.    I also painted SU pearls with a Yellow sharpie.   You can't see it very well, but I highlighted the dahlia with a Nuvo Shimmer glitter pen (from Simon Says).

For this card I combined two challenges...I bought the stamp awhile back at Hobby Lobby and have been waiting for a chance to use it.   I am making this card for a ladies swap group.   It's what I call a contemporary vintage look that was inspired by the card Concept #87 and the design is pretty much a "copy" of CAS(E) this sketch #261 retro93.   I think more jpg than png....meaning I layer as opposed to thinking transparency....I do like how this card turned out.  It was a step out of the box, to use this color scheme.  The panel is cut from designer paper and looks like the ceiling tiles that are either restored in old buildings or added to create a warm atmosphere...this I got from the card concept photo as well as the colors and of course the coffee.When I saw the challenge sketch below I was excited, because it shows exactly where to put stuff.    Thanks for stopping by, may the Lord bless your week-end!
